Come and join stained glass artist Caroline Lambert for an enjoyable day creating flowers that never fade!
Caroline will guide you through the various processes of this ancient craft from glass cutting to copper foiling, soldering and applying patina.
This workshop differs from the Wire and Glass Flowers Workshop, with more of an emphasis on the glass elements, and is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.
There will be plenty of patterns for you to follow, or perhaps you might like to design your own. All tools and equipment are provided, as well as a marvellous selection of coloured and textured glass. At the end of the day, you will have created a beautiful small bouquet of everlasting flowers, as well as learning many new skills.
You will learn to:
• Cut glass safely and competently
• Choose an appropriate selection of glass for your project
• Cut glass to a prepared pattern
• Grind glass safely and effectively
• Wrap each piece of glass neatly in copperfoil
• Flux ready for soldering
• Use a soldering iron safely
• Tin each piece
• Solder the pieces together
• Attach hooks and decorative wire details
• Apply patina
• Clean and polish your finished piece
What do I need to bring?
Caroline will provide all the tools and equipment you need as well as a good selection of vibrant coloured glass for you to choose from. You will however need to bring your own apron, note book and something to wrap your finished pieces to take them home safely. There will be tea/coffee etc. available all day but please bring your own lunch.
Health and safety
Please ensure you wear closed in shoes. Long hair will need to be tied up and please
don't wear dangling scarves and jewellery. Safety glasses will be provided.
As we are working with lead-based solder this day is not suitable for pregnant or nursing mothers.
Also please be aware that the day will involve periods of standing as well as physical activities such as cutting glass, wrapping the glass neatly with copper tape and handling a soldering iron, so there is a need for good manual dexterity and if you wear them don't forget your glasses!
Suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years.

Saturday 5 October - ten minute slots
For this Autumn workshop we are offering the chance to blow your own hot glass pumpkin or bauble!
Our resident glass blower, Ben Gough, will be showing us how it’s done and helping you to make your own special decoration in your choice of colours.
There are no age restrictions on this activity but children must be accompanied by an adult and we advise that bauble blowing is most suitable for children age 10+. It's a wonderful family activity that is as much fun to watch as it is to do!
One 10 minute slot will allow you to blow one bauble or pumpkin.
Please note that it takes several hours for the glass to cool down so you may not be able to take your product home on the day. If you are unable to return to Kingshill House at a later date to collect your finished product i.e. if you’re travelling from afar, please email us at [email protected] to discuss postage options.
