Please note this exhibition is currently under construction, however many pieces remain and can still be viewed during our opening hours.
“I Hate Fun” is artist Ella Burling (aka. Wiggle)’s debut solo exhibition
Fascinated by large structures, Ella is obsessed with rollercoasters. Painting these instead of visiting them due to a fear of theme parks she has had since childhood. The large scale paintings ,created intuitively, provide the “track” as an entry point to the painting, taking the viewer on a journey from one side to the other like they are “riding” the rollercoaster themselves.
Her work is motivated by unconscious making and childlike creation, trying to find a sense of comfort whilst constructing her paintings. She uses art to find a sense of identity as well as exploring the theme of inaccessibility in public spaces for neurodivergent people. The name “I Hate Fun” is a sarcastic reference to comments made towards the artist by those who misunderstand autism and based on criticisms from others that she has experienced day to day as a neurodivergent person.
This exhibition will be ever-changing as Ella develops her paintings and finds new and unique ways to explore this theme. Both original paintings and prints will be available for purchase.
10% of all sales will go to Southmead Hospital Charity
