Young knew from an early age that her future lay in the sphere of artistic exploration. She decided that creating art was her calling in life after studying a Foundation course in Art and Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. This initial experience guided her to fall in love with a deeper level of learning within the fine arts. Fascinated by the animals she encountered in the natural environment, she began to use these for her first painting subjects. Young consistently showed that she was not afraid to experiment with new mediums and a diverse range of styles. She began to paint more contemporary abstract paintings using mixed media including oil paints. Furthermore, her journey from reproducing a traditional Korean watercolour painting style has transcended into her personal contemporary approach. She is constantly trying to push boundaries and explore new ideas and juxtapositions within her works. Young spent five years in Paris focusing on animal sculpture with clays and pigments, culminating in experiences with bronze works from wax models. She is massively concerned about animal welfare and the impact humans have on their well-being. Her recent works reflect an underlying tension between human activity and the very survival of diverse animal species on our planet.
