The Brighter Side Community Postcard Project was launched at the end of May, in response to the Covid 19 crisis. The idea behind it was to encourage people of all ages, to design a postcard that reflected a moment of joy had in their everyday, whilst at home. The difficulties faced by all throughout this time, as we all know, have and continue to be very challenging and so we felt that this project would help bring some enjoyment and joy to the community during this time.
So where are we at now? (October 2020)
The project has gained momentum over these past few weeks and we are pleased to announce that we now have eight boards full of amazing postcards dotted around Dursley, Cam and Coaley. These are soon to be joined by three more boards, created by children from Cam Hopton Primary, who have benefited from the project in their PSHCE lessons, giving them the opportunity to talk and reflect about their own experiences during this time. The boards really are a joy to see and collectively the postcards give a real insight into just how positive and resilient people have remained during this very challenging and difficult time. Each postcard is truly unique and will ignite a personal response from the viewer: a smile, laughter, hope or maybe a shared understanding.
To coincide with 'Dursley Walking Festival 2020' (7-11 Oct), why not go on your own walking trail and make it your mission to find all of the eight boards. (Click here for your walking trail). Be sure to send a photograph of you finding your favourite board to admin@kingshillhouse.org.uk and we will post it on our Facebook Page! As an extra challenge, can you spot two more boards outside Bennett Jones in 'The Link' and their doorway, celebrating all the entries and winners of their Children's Colouring Competition 2020.
Can I still join in?
Most definitely! The project remains open and we would love you to join in. Remember, you don’t have to be an artist to take part. You can doodle, attach a photo, add textiles, use finger-paint or write a poem, anything goes.
If you would like some blank postcards you can collect them from Cam Post Office, Dursley Town Council, Kingshill House (Tuesday - Thursday) and the Creative Cafe at Quarry Chapel Cam.
Completed cards can be taken to Dursley Town Council office, dropped off at GL11 or posted through the letterbox Kingshill Arts Centre, or if you would prefer to submit a postcard digitally, please send it to admin@kingshillhouse.org.uk Please make sure that it measures 6inx4in at a resolution of 300dpi and don’t forget to include your name, surname, age and street location.
HAPPY CREATING and we look forward to receiving your postcard very soon!
