Stained Glass Ladders & Panels
Stained Glass ladders & Panels
Saturday 9th May 2026 10am-4.30pm
Have you ever fancied having a go at stained glass? Well, this is your chance to give it a go
In this hands-on workshop, you will be guided through the various stages needed to create your very own leaded glass panel for your home or zinc framed glass ladder for the garden.
There will be a selection of designs for you to choose from, as well as some gorgeous glass!
This day is suitable for both beginners and also those who have done it before, but perhaps who would like a little reminder of how it’s done. At every step of the way Caroline will be on hand, and will start each new technique with a practical demonstration.
What will I make?
A Leaded Stained Glass panel approximately A4 in size or a lead and zinc glass garden ladder approximately 80cm x 12cm. You will have a choice of designs to work from which are suitable for those with little or no experience of traditional leaded glass or working with zinc
You will learn to:
· Cut glass safely and competently
· Choose an appropriate selection of glass for your project
· Cut glass to a prepared pattern
· Grind glass safely and effectively
· Prepare a leading up board or zinc frame
· Stretch, shape and cut lead/zinc to fit your glass pieces
· Clean and flux lead/zinc
· Solder joints
· Attach hanging loops as necessary.
· Clean and polish
As we are working with lead, this workshop is not suitable for under 18’s, or for pregnant and nursing mothers. Also please be aware that the day will involve long periods of standing, as well as physical activities such as cutting glass and hand shaping lead, so there is a need for manual dexterity.
What do I need to bring?
Caroline will provide all the tools and equipment you need as well as a wide selection of glass for you to choose from. You will however need to bring your own apron, or wear old clothes, and also bring something to wrap your finished panel in to take it home safely.
Health and safety
Please ensure you wear closed in shoes and I suggest you also wear old clothes. Long hair will need to be tied up, and please don't wear dangling scarves and jewellery. Safety glasses will be provided.
What are the timings for the day?
Coffee will be available from 9.50am for a prompt start at 10.00am. We aim to be finished by 4.30pm although we may run over.
Refreshments
Tea, coffee and cake/ biscuits will be provided throughout the day but please bring your own lunch.
