Saturday 12th Feb 10am-4pm
Create your own personalised hand crafted valentine card inspired by the bright colours and graphics of artist Dan Baldwin.
Adele Dark, local Calligraphy Artist and Teacher will demonstrate and teach you how to use a pointed nib. You will learn the basics of Modern Calligraphy lettering and prepare your card graphics in the morning.
In the afternoon you will work on writing out a beautiful love poem, or your own personalised message. We will be using red thread to attach a love heart as the Chinese proverb tells us that . “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, and circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle. But it will never break.”
We are using swallows and peony graphics for their symbolic value. For example, folklore tells us that you can make a wish on the first Swallow you see in summer, and it will come true. In Japan the peonies symbolise love and honour. However, did you know that the peony is actually entrenched in deeper symbolic meaning? This flower is shrouded in mythological allure and valued for its symbolic meaning along with its medicinal and ornamental uses. It can be used to encourage a happy marriage.
An inspiring and beautiful workshop, perfect for Valentines!
