Did you know that Penguin books were founded with the mission to bring high quality books to the masses in the 1930s? The book covers have never strayed from the classic design and the design DNA remains as relevant today as it was when first published.
If you are a fan of the design or a book lover - or even want to create a wonderful, unique piece of art, this is a workshop for you.
New to Kingshill house, in this workshop you can build a creative design onto badges or pins around words and phrases of your choosing.
Create either 6 personalised and unique badges or a framed piece (more items are available to buy at an extra cost).
Perfect as a Valentines gift - to either a loved one or yourself!

About your tutor
Kate has collected and read penguin books for decades and in particular loves the phrases and terminology used in novels from the 50s and 60s. Some of the books she finds have been battered and unloved, have torn or broken spines, and pages falling out. Workshops such as this one gives a new lease of life to items that would normally be thoughtlessly thrown away.
Kate works through the pages hunting for words or phrases to hand draw and colour round, and uses design and colour to change their emphasis. Taken out of context, the words lose their original meaning and find new ones, and she likes to manipulate the meanings across different pages to create something new.
Each piece of artwork comes directly from a recycled page, there are no copies and therefore created as one of a kind original.
