Our ancient ancestors, Aristotle and those living in Byzantium, before him, understood and shared the power of plant remedies via the recording and copying of Herbal Manuscripts. These fascinating historical books with highly stylised and surprising plant illustrations and paintings will be the source of inspiration for this workshop where you will create stylised images of common herbs, learn about their medicinal properties and write out their names in English and Latin in beautiful hand drawn versals. The resulting artwork would be something to hang in your kitchen of gift to a friend.


Join artist Adele Dark and explore the fascinating world of medieval herbals and versal lettering to create your own creations.

Adele Dark is an artist, Fine Art Printmaking graduate from Brighton and a qualified teacher who brings a wide range of skill and experience of working with students of all ages to her workshops. Adele has been studying Calligraphy and Lettering for over 10 years and is a member of the Society of Scribes and CLAS. She completed the SSI Advanced Training Scheme and has studied with Master Calligraphers in the UK and abroad.
