Outdoor Theatre - A Comedy of Errors - 15 June 2019 - 2:30pm - 5pm

We are delighted to present to you A Downpour Theatre Production of William Shakepseare's A Comedy of Errors.
The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeare’s shortest yet wittiest play.
Let the cast transport you to the Byzantine Empire. Hilarity ensues when Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant Dromio arrive in the hustle and bustle of Ephesus which, unbeknownst to them, is the home of their identical twins, Antipholus and Dromio of Ephesus from whom they were separated in a tragic shipwreck when they were just infants.
Over the course of a single day, mistaken identities lead to unfair beatings, wrongful arrests and false accusations of infidelity, theft, madness and even demonic possession.
This gloriously silly but clever farce, performed by a marvelously talented cast, is the perfect way to spend a summer weekend!

MoMac'nMe - 15 March 2019

Celebrate St Patrick’s Night with MoMac’Me in the Oldridge Bar at Kingshill House on Friday 15 March. MoMac’nMe grew out of a shared passion for traditional Celtic music and songs and their repertoire combines Irish and Scottish with English material and a chance to join in with a song. The singing of the Clancy brothers from Ireland and the Scottish duo the Corries have been particularly influential. 'Mac' Cullen, 'Mo' Turton and Phil Dee are very popular in the north Bristol area, they now have two CDs recorded and produce an exciting sound with the combination of guitars, banjo, bouzouki, concertinas, button accordion and bodhran.
For those who would also like to eat, a supper will be served in the bar, there will be a veggie option. The kitchen and bar will be open from 7.00 with the entertainment starting around 8.00, children accompanied by an adult are welcome. There is no entry charge but we do pass the hat round.

Tyndale Arts Week - Sophie Ploeg - 4 October 2018

Tyndale Arts Week has invited local artist Sophie Ploeg to provide an evening talk about her paintings and inspiration.
Sophie is a Dutch artist based in Thornbury, who specialises in portraiture and drapery. Her paintings of lace show her love of detail and history. As a trained art historian it is no surprise that much of her inspiration comes from art history, especially the Dutch and English 17th century. Sophie will explain and show how art history influences her work, how she got so involved in painting lace, and what her painting process looks like.
She has exhibited her work widely, such as at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the National Portrait Gallery, London for the BP Portrait Award and the Pastel Society.
The talk coincides with an exhibition of Sophie's paintings at Kingshill House in Dursley. The exhibition will be open during the evening talk and will continue during the exhibition weekend of Tyndale Arts Week (5, 6 & 7 October 2018).
Doors open to view Sophie’s work 7pm. Talk starts at 7:30pm Or stay afterwards, have a drink at the bar, talk to Sophie and look at her work.
If you would like to attend the exhibition and talk by Sophie book your tickets here

Roald Dahl's The Witches - Outdoor Theatre - 11 August 2018

"My darling boy, you won’t last long in this world if you don’t know how to spot a witch when you see one.”
Kingshill House is excited to welcome Downpour Theatre Company who will be performing their Production of Roald Dahl's The Witches in Kingshill House gardens.
Roald Dahl’s scariest book is brought to life in a tremendously terrifying treat for the whole family. Witches absolutely detest children. They find them revolting and are planning to wipe them out like weasels! They want to squish them and squiggle them and make them disappear. But one brave young boy and his grandmother have a plan to get rid of the witches for good… if only they can avoid being turned into mice.
A faithful adaption, bringing to life, a classic from one of Britiain's most celebrated children's authors. Can one young boy and his Grandmother defeat the Grand High Witch's plan to turn every child in England into a mouse? A fun and magically way to spend a summer afternoon, as we journey from the mountains of Norway to a seafront hotel in Bournemouth, and meet a host of crazy characters, puppets, magic, frogs, mice and cackling witches along the way.
Performances will take place in Kingshill House Gardens, you are welcome to bring a blanket to sit on. Hopefully umbrellas won't be necessary, but please bring one if you think it might be required.
Picnics are permitted however there will be a food outlet serving hot food and ice-creams. The bar will also be open serving a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Adults - £9
Child (Must be under 16) - £7
Please note No refunds are given once payment has been made. You can transfer your place to another person for the same event.
